Our summer internship runs from the last month of our second semester through summer school dates. This is usually the first week of June through the third week of August. Exact dates TBD.
We are pleased to welcome college students who are aspiring teachers to our school to gain experience and perspective working in our unique educational environment. Internship applicants should be aspiring teachers who have completed at least their freshman year of college, with a serious interest in pursuing a career in education. Qualified applicants will arrive at TamKang, where they will train alongside an experienced teacher to prepare them for teaching ESL in the classroom.
Applicants will observe classes and work with experienced teachers in lesson planning and creation of instructional materials. They will also work in our school’s English Village, where they will interact with students. After observation and training, applicants will focus on the practical application of teaching/training skills learned by leading lessons in the classroom alongside a co-teacher.
Applicants will also be required to give a closing presentation regarding their experience, and assist with extra-curricular programs that are taking place at the school.
The best candidates are those who:
1. Have had experience traveling/working abroad
*though it is not a make or break factor
2. Have teacher training or teaching experience
3. Are able to easily adapt to new environments
4. Are able to work both independently and within a group
5. Are flexible and work well in a fast paced work environment
While participating in the summer program, housing will be provided by the school, but all other expenses (food, transportation, etc.) are to be covered by the candidate.
